Learning English vs. Technology- topics seven and eight


Learning English is one of the most difficulties things for the students in the school. They are the students who are in elementary school, junior high school and senior high school. It also happens to the student of the university. Most of them think that English is difficult, isn’t it? Yeah, they may say like so, but for me now learning English will be easier. Do you know why I think like so? It is because of the technology. Yeah technology is one of the wonderful powers in this twentieth century. By using technology, we can do everything we want to. It has many functions for learning English. Again, by using the technology learning English will be more interesting.
I can see from the seven and eight meeting of the session in Teaching and language learning, that when I want to learn and teaching English so I have to be able to integrate between technology and language learning.  I feel so impressed when I see that there are so many more websites or a links who can be as the resource for the teacher. It means that the English teacher can arrange the lesson plan to become a nice learning by using technology.
Technology can be part of the main point in learning English. It is because of the students. The students are the newest generation. They are also called by “The Digital Generation”. The students are clever who have several multiple intelligences and differences the way their learning in English. So, they are going to have sophisticated skill in up to date technology. It also means that as a teacher later, I have to be skillful in using technology otherwise the students will ignore me and get bored.
Speaking and listening are the chunk of the skills in English. Those are the skills can be learnt easily by technology. The technology provides several links from the good western websites. From the websites, the students can practice their listening via movie and sound. The technology also can help the students in pronunciations about some rather difficult vocabularies. The teacher also should pay attention to the type of the strategies in English teaching. For example: natural hypothesis, monitor hypothesis, input hypothesis and so on. They should be appropriate to the students.
From this sessions, I can see that when I want to teach, I have to know deeper about the topics itself. It also can related to the cognitive, affective and psychometric of the students. Overall, I like this meeting, because I can see the differences of the way in teaching and learning process, besides I can use language laboratories and can browse websites related to the speaking and listening English.

MALL or CALL?


Well, in this opportunity I would like to share on my class session about technology in language learning. Among Technology, teaching and learning process are the thing that has quite important relationship. In this era, teaching and learning process can be nice and interesting thing because the teachers use technology in every single time of their teaching. But it does not happen to all of the school in Indonesia. It depends on the facilities of the school. By using technology, teaching and learning process especially language, can be easier. Besides, technology can support in teaching and learning process. It can be proved by video, slide presentation, tape-recorder and so on.
During the class session, I felt impressed because I have never known before that technology especially in this case mobile phone can assist learning and teaching process. I could know that formerly, in teaching and learning process there were not technology that can be integrated in language learning. People who used mobile phone with antenna on its cell phone at that time were the rich persons. The mobile phone that they used also was not up to date if it compared with now. But at the time, it was a sophisticated technology.  
Mobile-Assisted Language Learning or MALL is one of media that can help the teacher in teaching and learning language. Again, mobile phone is a portable technology. So, it will make easier in the usage. Another media that can help teaching and learning language is CALL or Computer-Assisted Language Learning. Call can help the teacher also but in this case, I think CALL is better than MALL because CALL can do everything rather than MALL. I can see from its sophisticated software and ability.  

A Happy Life by Teaching


Well, in this meeting, PETA class session only gave some instructions to every group of the class to do some simulation on how to teach the students, based on the lesson plan that was made by each group itself. It was really amazing for me because the persons who became the students were my friends. It was incredible, right? I was very comfortable because of the condition. We supported each others. Again, I think it was proof based on what every group wrote in the flipchart whether the group could apply their lesson plan well or not.
As a generation of high quality teacher, I have to pay attention too much to the lesson plan because lesson plan is a preparation before teaching the students. From the lesson plan I can know how to teach the students well. The lesson plan can become guidelines for me as a teacher to teach the students. I have learnt many thing about lesson plan in the first semester and now in the third semester  again I am getting a same material about lesson plan but in this opportunity I have find out deeper on lesson plan. Not only understand what lesson plan exactly is but also I have to  be able how to make good lesson plan and understanding how to use lesson plan in the real situation of teaching and learning process.
When I teach the students it is a nice thing. I can feel how feeling teachers who teach in front of the students. When the simulation turn of my friend and me, I believed to myself that I must be able to do it. Although teaching in front of the students who are exactly not real the students grade level as my friend and I wanted to teach, but I think it is time for me. It is time to explore and sharpen my skill in language teaching.
Not only teaching but as a teacher I have to educate my students. When I was in senior high school, one of my teachers has ever said that being a teacher is not easy. Not everyone can be a teacher. Do you know why she said so? Because being a teacher we have to face humans not a thing. Moreover, being a teacher we do not only teach, but also we have to educate them. May be for those people who are smart they can teach, but not certainly can educate people. So, in this worth chance I am very proud of myself being a teacher.
 Teacher and teaching are part of the real life. Yeah, without both of them everything is nothing. Through my campus I can learn everything about teacher and teaching. Despite I have not graduated yet from the campus, but I believe that being a teacher is the best choice for my life. Again, I am looking forward to get beautiful knowledge later from my lecturer in every worth single time.

A joyful in teaching and learning process

           The Learning process for some the students are boring. The students feel bored and sleepy when they are getting the course in the classroom. If the students do not have any high motivations and passion, they will ignore the course, even though they will sleep during the learning process. On the other hand, teaching and learning process is a beautiful and joyful thing.  It can be happened due to the teacher strategies in teaching and learning process. When the teacher teaches the students, he does not focus on one way method and he also has interesting methods. Those will make the students comfortable in following learning process. They will get spirit in getting knowledge from the teacher.
Now, I know about the four of instructional models in teaching and learning process. Those are direct instruction, lecture discussion, guided discovery and group interactional methods. By knowing them, I can understand what I have to do when I want to teach the students. It will not make the students getting bored anymore and teaching and learning process will be more a joyful thing.
I think all of those interactional methods are important. The teacher should apply the methods in the teaching and learning process. The teacher also have to realize that his teaching way influenced by social and cultural context. It can see in the differences of the student’s tribes, characteristics, and the languages. So that is why teacher have to own those methods.
By using those kinds of the instructional models, teaching and learning process will be more effective and efficient. I also have to pay attention to the objective and indicators of the topics. I have to do as what the objective and indicators rules. After I look at the objectives and the indicators of the topics, then I can decide what instructional models that I have to use appropriately. In this third meeting, I hope I can not only understand on the four of instructional method, but also I can apply those methods well. Overall, I like this meeting and I am looking forward for the next meeting.


My second e-reflection about TLL


Well, this is the second week in teaching language learning subject.  I have gotten two topics. Those are in topic three and topic four. In topic three I can learn on what can ICT offer the language teacher and learners and in the topic four I also can learn on general characteristics of digital media. I really feel amazed because those are the materials that I think I can know everything much deeper on using ICT for language learning.
ICT is very useful. When we want to learn language, it will be more effective if we engage ICT in our language learning. Not also being effective, but also by using ICT, language learning will become efficient, joyful and fun. By using ICT I can use various kinds of methods for examples I can use audio-visual, pictures, videos, slide presentation, and so on. But, I have to remember that when I use ICT as a media for language learning, I have to pay attention to the indicators and objectives of the topics that I want to teach to the students.
Indicators and objectives of the topics are very important. From those are criteria as a teacher I can measure how effective and efficient in teaching my students. It means that what I have to do, it should suitable with what said in the indicators and objectives. Even though ICT which I use as a teacher is very sophisticated and up to date, it can be said as effective and efficient in processing language learning if the application of the indicators and objective are not success. Besides, as a teacher, I have to adjust between ICT and the topics. From those kinds of things, I can decide which one exactly methods that I have to apply in teaching and learning process.

Who am I ?

Well, now I am in Jakarta Selatan, I live so far away from my family.  I am a person who comes from Banten Province, Tangerang Regency, Sepatan district, and certainly gempol Sari village. I am 20 years old. Who am I?
My name is Jajang Fauzan Muhafidh which is the name that I have been receiving since I was born until now and forever. Jajang Fauzan MUhafidh is the name that always becomes a big question in my deepest heart.  A proverb says that “what the meaning is of the name?”  Based on my religion, Islam “the name is a pray” and also “who else know himself, so he or she has known his God”. (Al-hadist)
I feel so surprised when I know that the person who gave my name was not my father. Who is he? And How come does he do so? Actually, when I was child my father often gave me know about him. My father always told me about him and the historical of my name. Could you please imagine that? I do feel curious in my deepest heart even until now. I never know about his face and his physically body but I can know his greatest characteristics, his behaviors, and his attitudes from my father.  He is my father’s teacher. In Islam, it is usually called by Ustadz. Her name is Ustadz Abdul Jalil. He is the diligent, smart, kindly, and friendly person. My father always tells everything about him. My father is a religious man. When I was born, the persons who come to my father’s house are religious people, my father’s teacher, head of the village, and all of the old man. Those are the persons who are closest with my father. So that was why, at that time my father’s house was very full of the people. 
 Ustadz Abdul Jalil came from Ciamis, exactly in Cihideng region. That is why I feel so impressed with the persons who come from Ciamis. It is due to the tight relationship with my life. Those events happened when my family’s house was still in Cipondoh, Tangerang City but now, my family and I live in Tangerang regency. At that time, there was a total penggusuran in Cipondoh Tangerang. Mr. Ustz. Abdul Jalil also came back to his home town in Ciamis. Oh my God, please let me meet to him…
Mr. Ustz. Abdul Jalil initially was named me by “Fauzan Muhafidh”. He thought that there was a difficulty in calling my name, so that he added “Jajang” in front of the name as a sign of sundanese people and based on what my father said that the meaning of my name is “the sweet boy who represents Sudanese tribe who is memorizer of Al-Qur’an and gets happily”. I have ever found my name “fauzan” in Al-Qur’an but I forgot where it is located exactly.
I do believe on the meaning of my name based on my father said. I do believe that there are my father’s hope and wish in my name. I do believe that this is the greatest name for me and it is a mercy. My name is very beautiful “Jajang Fauzan Muhafidh”, isn’t it? May be for everyone else views my nick name “Jajang” as an old af the date name, villager, and whatever they said, I do not care. Well, I have ever felt shy, when I wanted to introduce my name, due to my nick name” jajang”, and my child friends in village always insulted and bullied me. But, time by the time, sooner or later, I had been realizing since childhood that I am proud of my name so much. My mercy and beautiful name is “Jajang Fauzan Muhafidh” now, and forever.
I think my name is appropriate so much for me due to the fact of my life. My name is my solid identity. Whenever I am, I always remember my name. So that, it can support me and give me spirit of life. Again, I can reflect through my name and my father’s hope through my name in order to I can have good behavior and attitude. What my father wants to through my name it comes true. I do not want to change my name because I really like my name. Thank you so much Ibu, Bapak, Allah SWT, Bapak Ustz. I want to be useful person, sincere, happily, a spirit person, and never give up until the last drop of the blood.
